Why Locals Love Wayback Burgers
Nestled within the Navy Exchange food court at 22099 Cuddihy Rd Building 2369 in Patuxent River, Wayback Burgers brings a fresh, flavorful twist to classic American fast food. This delightful spot specializes in quality hamburgers, chicken dishes, and breakfast fare, all crafted with an unmistakable dedication to freshness and care. Each meal is cooked to order, ensuring every bite bursts with savory juiciness and mouthwatering satisfaction.
Wayback Burgers proudly serves up hearty, flame-grilled burgers that boast a perfectly balanced blend of juicy beef and expertly toasted buns — a true homage to American comfort food. Customers repeatedly praise the consistently fresh ingredients and precisely cooked beef and chicken, verified using thermometers to guarantee safety and quality. For those seeking variety, the chicken tenders come juicy and tender, and you can even customize your burger with a lettuce “bun” for a lighter, low-carb option that doesn’t sacrifice flavor.
The menu also shines with satisfying sides and breakfast selections, complemented by irresistible milkshakes — notably a fan favorite created with personal care by the welcoming team member Allegra, who ensures you’re always greeted with a smile. The dining atmosphere, though part of a bustling food court, feels inviting thanks to the friendly staff and their evident pride in delivering fresh, hot meals every single time.
While some guests note that prices lean on the higher side compared to typical base eateries, the commitment to fresh, never-frozen ingredients justifies the investment. The wait might be a little longer — because everything is made fresh to order — but the payoff is undeniable: no soggy fries or cold leftovers, just hot, flavorful food that keeps patrons coming back. Whether you’re craving a richly flavored double bacon burger or a crisp Caesar salad side, Wayback Burgers manages to balance fast food convenience with gourmet-style quality.
For visitors stationed or visiting Patuxent River, this location offers a dependable spot for a quick yet satisfying meal that feels crafted rather than rushed. If you find yourself nearby, a stop here promises a genuine taste of American burger culture with a heartfelt touch.

Friendly staff, pretty pricey for an eatery on base.

This restaurant serves fresh beef and chicken. They even use thermometers to check the temperature of the food. The burgers are great and so is the chicken here. I would say maybe a little more cheese on the fries or a melted/liquid cheese. I understand that the food court itself closes at a certain hour. The NEX or base should change that.

This was my second time eating at this location. Both times that I ate there the food was great. They cook everything fresh as soon as you order it. You are not getting leftover fries from the last order or anything like that. Being that it is fresh, it took a little time, but in the end, it was all worth it. The workers there are nice and know what they’re doing. The chicken tenders were juicy and they actually taste good without any sauce. The fries were crispy, but not hard. The cheese and bacon on top of the fries stole the show.

This is located at the food court of the Navy Exchange. I ordered the double bacon burger which they were able to put on a lettuce “bun” for me. The burger was really good. Juicy flavorful and not over cooked. I opted for a Caesar salad instead of fries. The lettuce was fresh and the Caesar dressing was tasty. Would definitely recommend for a quick bite.

I enjoy getting food from here. Every time I come Allegra is always greeting with a smile. Food is always hot and cooked to order. 10/10 when Allegra makes my milkshakes.

I actually have great experiences at this Wayback burger. I used to get the kid’s meal until the cashier pointed out a deal that was cheaper. I don’t know how many of their burgers I have eaten, but they are always fresh and delicious. The staff is happy and friendly. I should try some of the other stuff, but the basic burger is good. Sad to see there are some negative reviews on here. I see the owners are selling this location.

Tasty burgers. I like the burgers here but the prices are way to high for burgers. I thought 5 guys was high but this makes 5 guys look cheap. One thing I don’t like about this place is it doesn’t have combos. You have to order fries and drinks separate. I’ve never been to a burger joint and hear that before. The staff was very friendly. I order the bacon double char and the redo burger. Both were good. The fries were hot and crispy. This place is located at the food court in the Navy Exchange at Pax River.
